I really like this blog, i've read it in the past without evening realizing that it's right here in BIM. I just bought my shado beni at the nursery. As soon as they put it on the shelf I was there taking them ALL :) The shado beni plant i had in the yard never gets to grow, i keep picking from it. I was so desperate that i even picked and cooked the stem.

I love gardening!!

hi - what a nice site! so cool and easy on the eye!

question for you: do you know anything about a fruit called [sp] "cocoreet"? it's a member of the palm family, looks like an oversized acorn. to eat it, you hold the fruit in your teeth and pinch off the "acorn cap", then, still using your teeth, squeeze the pulpy fruit out. there's not much fruit because there's a whacking huge seed in the middle. once you've cleaned off the pulp, the seed looks exactly like a wee little coconut.

i cannot find Thing One on the net about this fruit so i doubt "cocoreet" is the actual name.

any ideas?

I am so happy to find your blog. I am moving to Barbados in April, and I plan to container garden and perhaps (depending on our landlord) have a small herb/greens garden. Is there anything you recommend I buy here in the US before we move down? We are able to move a fair amount of stuff- (i.e., no fertizer, but should be able to get light weight pots) Any ideas would be appreciated!
